We don’t just see skin conditions-we see the person beneath, someone whose confidence and comfort have been challenged each day. This drives our relentless mission to revolutionise dermatological care. The Heart of Granlab

Our story begins with our founder Dr Pragya Sharma’s desire to combine her years of expertise in structural biochemistry to develop a cure for her grandmother, who had suffered with debilitating psoriasis. Pragya saw the struggles her grandmother faced as a result of her chronic skin condition and was compelled to help. But not only was the treatment successful for finding relief for her grandmother, after six months of using Pragya’s formulation she was symptom-free. It was like magic, only better. It was science!

Sound Science

GL‑1 is a non-steroidal, investigational topical formulation under development for the management of chronic inflammatory dermatoses, including forms of psoriasis affecting sensitive areas. The formulation is based on a steroid-free design philosophy intended to reduce inflammation while minimising the risk of local and systemic side effects associated with prolonged corticosteroid use.

  • GL‑1 is designed to modulate the IL‑17A / SIRT1 / STAT3 axis, a well-characterised signalling pathway implicated in the pathogenesis of inflammatory skin diseases. Dysregulation of this pathway is known to contribute to cytokine overexpression, oxidative stress, and impaired skin barrier function. By targeting this axis, GL‑1 may help restore immunological balance in affected skin tissues.

  • In vitro studies, conducted in collaboration with the Centre of Applied Bioscience Research (CABR), have assessed the effect of GL‑1 in primary human skin cell models. Observations include improvements in cellular health markers and reduced pro-inflammatory responses.

These findings support further investigation of GL‑1 in clinical settings.

  • Independent safety testing conducted by Eurofins, under OECD testing guidelines, confirmed that GL‑1 is non-irritant and non-corrosive in validated skin models.

  • All formulation and laboratory R&D for GL‑1 is carried out at Gran Lab’s in-house facility located within Queen’s University Belfast, where our team continues to investigate novel approaches to the treatment of chronic skin inflammation.

A patent application has been submitted to protect the composition and proposed mechanism of action of GL‑1. Clinical studies are currently in preparation.

  • GL‑1 is being developed with the aim of offering:

    - A non-steroidal approach to inflammatory skin management

    - Suitability for regular or long-term application

    - Potential use in sensitive skin areas

    - A formulation inclusive of a wide range of skin types

While still under investigation, GL‑1 reflects a step toward expanding the range of safe and effective options available to patients in dermatological care.

Wave goodbye to withdrawals

Long term use of topical steroids is known to cause side effects, including skin thinning, changes in skin colour and, in some cases, withdrawal reactions. Regulatory reviews have confirmed these risks, especially when treatment continues for six months or more.

Our “steroid-free by design” philosophy means every formulation is created to calm inflammation gently, restore skin resilience, and provide lasting relief without the risks linked to steroid dependency.

Lip Balm Trials

It is important to us that we develop our range of products in consultation with real-life patients. Their feedback is invaluable for creating treatments that are not only effective, but also feel luxurious, nourishing, and are enjoyable to use.

Want to help shape a product created by Granlab®? We are currently recruiting volunteers for a pilot study of our lip balm. If you’re over 18 and have inverse psoriasis, eczema around the mouth, or sensitive skin, we’d love to hear from you!

Get in touch to schedule a short 15-30 minute consultation with our team to determine if you’re a good fit for this pilot study.
